Honoring Service and Selflessness: Matteo DeSimone, WWII Veteran and American Hero
At 100 years old, Matteo DeSimone of Rhode Island is a living reminder of a generation that shaped history. Born in 1925, Matto answered the call of duty during World War II, enlisting in the U.S. Army in June of 1943.
Serving through to April 1946, Matteo was deployed to Europe in support of Patton’s Third Army, where he took on the critical and dangerous work of a truck driver supporting the Allied campaign in France and Germany. Amid constant threats from enemy fire and shifting front lines, his role was essential to transporting supplies and personnel—a vital responsibility that kept the war effort in motion. During this time, Matteo was wounded by shrapnel, a sobering reminder of the risks he faced daily.
After recovering from his wounds, Matteo served as a guard for prisoners of war—another role requiring discipline, vigilance, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Following the end of the war and his separation from the Army, Matteo worked as a contractor all over the state of Rhode Island, building residences and commercial buildings, even working on the famous Aldrich Mansion in Warwick. Matteo was doing construction work when it was even more manual and physically demanding, relying heavily on hand tools and hard work, a legacy we appreciate here at Spec Ops Tools.
Today, Matteo is not just a centenarian but a grandfather to one of our own team members. His story is a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience that define the American spirit.
To Matteo DeSimone—thank you. We are proud to know you and forever indebted to you for your service to our great nation.
